If you, like me, don’t want to be restricted with your web browsing during work time, but your sysadmin has locked down your internet access, this is a few tips that might help you out, all depending on how hard filters your sysadmin has empowered.
You could always try to use some kind of anonymizer, where you basically browse the web via one site that’s hopefully not restricted by your employer. A simple google search will help you with that.
And if that’s not the case you will have to install FireFox on your computer, and here you have two options, once again depending on how your sysadmin has tightened the security. Some corporations don’t allow the employees to install software on the computers while others do, but there is a solution to almost all scenarios.
You could try to just download Firefox from here, and then try to install it like every other program. If that fails, try to install somewhere in your “Documents and settings” folder, like the “My Documents” folder, you should have the right privileges to write files to that folder. If the normal install fails because of restricted registry access you could download Firefox portable from here. This is a modified install of Firefox that wont touch the registry in any way, and if you can install this one into your “My Documents” folder you are half-way through! Go and install Proxy Toolbar Addon and then restart your FireFox. When restarted go to Proxy-List and at the bottom of the page fill in the captcha code to get access to the lists. Then in the proxy search form, choose port 80 only to be on the safe side and then click “search proxy”.
You should have a new toolbar in your FireFox window that looks like this:![]()
This is where you fill in the ip address and the port of the proxy you want to use from the Proxy-List site above. When I searched I got these results:
So I just grabbed the first one in the list, copied it to my proxy toolbar and pressed “Apply”.
Now all you have to do is start surfing the web that’s normally blocked for you by your employer.

When restarted go to Proxy-List and at the bottom of the page fill in the captcha code to get access to the lists.
This one is blocked too in our network!
(can you drop in an email with response if I have any options to continue the walkthrough above?)

Just do a google search for “proxy list” or something similar, the first result is http://www.samair.ru/proxy/.
